    Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University is excited to announce its annual Lessons and Carols service on Dec. 5, 2024, at 7 p.m. The event will be held in the Modena Lowrey Berry Auditorium and marks the official welcome of the Christmas season, celebrating the arrival of Jesus Christ, our Immanuel. This cherished campus community event, which is free to the public, will feature powerful performances by the Chorale and guest musicians. Attendees will be invited to join in a festive celebration centered around the traditional nine lessons of scripture, which articulate the prophecy of the promised Messiah and celebrate His miraculous birth in Bethlehem. Under the direction of Dr. Greg Long, chair and professor of music, along with Laura Long, instructor of music, the voice-auditioned choral ensemble will fill the auditorium with the spirit of Christmas through melodic holiday carols. Each carol will be interspersed with meaningful readings of the nine scripture passages by the university’s administration and faculty members. “This special event is one of my favorite experiences each year here on our BMCU campus as we welcome the Christmas season and celebrate again the glorious good news of God’s gift of salvation through the promised birth of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, our Immanuel,” Dr. Long said. “I love hearing the dramatic reading of the nine scripture lessons and the beautiful singing of the carols presented by the Chorale and the entire congregation with full audience participation.     Blue Mountain, Miss.– Blue Mountain Christian University invites the community to a weekend of celebration and fellowship during its annual Founders Day and Homecoming events. This year’s festivities are set for Nov. 1-2, 2024, featuring a lineup of engaging activities for all ages. Kicking off the weekend on Friday, Nov. 1, will be the BMCU Chorale Fall Concert titled "How Great Your Name." This special performance, hosted by the Blue Mountain Christian University Department of Fine Arts, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Modena Lowrey Berry Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public, promising an unforgettable evening of music. Additionally, the Palmer Donnell House Guild will host the popular bluegrass and gospel band Murphy Ridge at 2 p.m. on Friday. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the enchanting atmosphere at the Palmer Donnell House. Homecoming festivities continue on Saturday, Nov. 2, with a beloved tradition welcoming back alumni and current players to the baseball diamond at 9 a.m. Following the baseball event, the Homecoming Court will be presented in the Tyler Gymnasium at 11 a.m. A pregame lunch will be available at Ray Dining Hall from noon to 1 p.m., providing a perfect opportunity for guests to mingle and celebrate.     Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University Department of Fine Arts is thrilled to announce the upcoming Chorale Fall Concert, "How Great Your Name," as part of the Founder's Day Celebration on Nov. 1, 2024, at 7 p.m. in the Modena Lowrey Berry Auditorium. This event is open to the public, and admission is free. “I have invited a select group of talented home-schooled high school students from the Shepherd’s Horn music school in Bartlett, TN to join with the Chorale in singing “Jubilate Deo” by Peter Anglea and “Te Deum” by W. A. Mozart. We are also inviting a select group of singers from the New Albany Presbyterian Church sanctuary choir to combine with the Chorale on several new selections of Psalms and hymns. The concert will conclude with two favorite anthems of mine in which alumni singers from the Chorale will be invited to come up on stage and sing with the Chorale once again in a joyful finale for our annual Founder’s Day celebration. Cinderella Confidential, written by Eric Coble, follows the story of two investigative reporters, Deb Jabber and Sonny Glamour, as they compete to uncover the truth behind the timeless love story. With appearances from beloved characters such as Pinocchio and Jack, this no-holds-barred exposé will keep you on the edge of your seat. This collaboration aims to address the growing market demand for skilled professionals in these high-demand fields. As part of its commitment to providing students with cutting-edge academic programs, BMCU has been awarded a Congressionally-funded grant to help bridge the national skills gap in these areas. With the rapid advancement of technology and the increasing prevalence of cyber threats, the need for qualified professionals in Cybersecurity and Information Technology has never been greater. Recognizing this demand, BMCU has taken a proactive approach to equip its students with the essential skills needed to succeed in the 21st century workforce.     Blue Mountain, Miss. —Blue Mountain Christian University School of Nursing is proud to announce that it has received accreditation for its baccalaureate degree program in nursing for a period of five years, extending to June 30, 2029. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) granted this accreditation after evaluating the program based on the CCNE Standards for Accreditation of Baccalaureate and Graduate Nursing Programs. The accreditation action is effective as of Nov. 13, 2023, and the next on-site evaluation is scheduled for the fall of 2028. "We are committed to continuously improving our program and look forward to the growth and development of our nursing program," said Dr. Tammie McCoy, Dean of Nursing. "This accreditation is a testament to our dedication to providing Christ-centered academic excellence and fostering a collaborative learning environment for our students."     Blue Mountain, Miss. - Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU) is proud to announce the graduation of their first Computer Science student, William Porter. The Pontotoc native completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science through the LCM Consortium of which BMCU is a member. As a student at BMCU, he participated in cross country, track, and bowling teams. The Computer Science program at BMCU equips graduates with both scientific and practical expertise that can be applied to a wide range of disciplines. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), software developers are among the highest paid professionals with a 2020 annual median salary of $110,140. The BLS estimates that the number of software developer jobs will grow 22% from 2020 to 2030. CNBC estimates that there are over 700,000 open jobs in tech, most of which require a technically focused skillset. "We are thrilled to have our first graduate from the Computer Science program at BMCU," said Dr. Barbara McMillin, President of BMCU. "Our goal is to provide our students with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their chosen careers." The Computer Science program at BMCU includes courses in programming, algorithms, data structures, computer architecture, and software engineering.     Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU) was honored to have JJ Jasper as the speaker for the 2024 commencement ceremony. The ceremony was held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10:00 am in the Modena Lowrey Berry Auditorium. JJ Jasper is a nationally recognized veteran morning on-air radio personality, best-selling author, comedian, dedicated Christian and devoted family man. Jasper hosts a national morning radio show on American Family Radio network. When he's not motivating listeners with his unique brand of humor and encouragement, he is entertaining people as a stand-up comedian and keynote speaker. Jasper and his wife, Melanie, along with their children live in Tupelo. Jasper addressed the graduates, encouraging them to “stay in the Word, pray for wisdom, grow in wisdom, and strive to be a servant.” He also reflected on the value of an education at BMCU, highlighting the Christ-centered focus and Christian worldview. It was an extra special occasion for Jasper as his daughter, Maddie, was among the graduates at the ceremony. The ceremony was a momentous occasion, and over one hundred graduates, eight from foreign countries, combined of bachelor's and master's degrees became BMCU alumni. BMCU President Dr. Barbara McMillin expressed her pride in the graduating class, stating, "It is an honor to congratulate these students and to send them out with a top-quality education made distinctive by a Christian worldview. At BMCU, we know our graduates are equipped to fill positions of leadership and service and will do so both in our own community and around the world. Congratulations to the class of 2024!"     Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University is proud to announce the recipients of the 2024 Leora Duce Leadership Initiative (LDLI) diploma. The LDLI program is designed to promote intellectual integrity, Christian character, civility, servant leadership, and service, all of which are aligned with the BMCU mission. Based on the biblical model of servant leadership, the LDLI program requires students to earn at least 100 points by participating in various activities that help them develop problem-solving skills, team building, service, and civility, as well as individual initiative and responsible moral choices based on biblical principles. The 2024 recipients of the LDLI Diploma were 14 students who displayed exceptional leadership qualities. These students presented their seminar portfolios on April 16, 2024.     Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University (BMCU) is pleased to announce the availability of limited-time tuition scholarships for its master's programs. These scholarships are available to all BMCU graduates who will be entering a master's program in or before the fall 2028 term. The tuition scholarships will be effective beginning summer 2024 and the master’s program must be completed within three years. The master's degree programs available for the scholarship include Master of Education, Master of Business Administration, and Master of Science in Kinesiology. Additionally, there is a scholarship available to any teacher currently employed in the following counties: Alcorn, Benton, Marshall, Prentiss, Tippah, or Union.     Blue Mountain Christian University’s Fine Arts Department presents Rev. Riding in the Hood, written by Pastor Joseph Parker of American Family Radio and Elizabeth Parker, on Wednesday, Feb. 28th at 2:30 pm, Thursday, Feb. 29th at 6:30 pm, and Friday, March 1st at 6:30 pm. This comedy/drama play features memorable characters from the rough neighborhoods of present-day Memphis. Reverend John Riding, better known as Rev, preaches a sermon about the Ten Commandments to a local assembly and addresses the sanctity of life, inspiring the congregation members to do the “right thing.” As the story unfolds, people are challenged to be hearers and doers of God’s Word. This play features a wonderful cast, including Blue Mountain Christian University students Hannah Wilson, Giana Curosi, Lily-Ann Smith, and Jonathan Hitt, along with Moriah Addison, Sam-Witt Addison, Kingslee Hendrix, Vivian Mitchell, and Joseph Parker as the Rev. “This production is convicting, provoking, and faith-affirming,” according to Director and Assistant Professor of Speech and Theatre Christi Mitchell. “I am so thrilled to collaborate with Pastor Joseph Parker on this production. His experience and passion for the Word of God are tremendous, and the cast is such a blessing to work with. This is going to be a great show.” Rev. The resolution ( S.Res.538 ), which recognizes the university for its academic, faith-based, and athletic excellence, was approved by unanimous consent this week. “For 150 years, Blue Mountain Christian University has afforded so many the opportunity to complete their studies, as well as grow in their faith,” Hyde-Smith said. “This resolution honors the huge impact this small-but-mighty college has on students, staff, and the surrounding community.” “Blue Mountain Christian University has dedicated itself to ministry, service, and academic excellence. This resolution is a small way to honor their legacy. I wish them the best on the next 150 years,” Wicker said. The resolution honors the launching of Blue Mountain Christian University in September 1873 as a women’s institution with a four-member faculty offering a liberal arts curriculum to 50 students. Today, the university is a coeducational institution that offers a wide range of baccalaureate and graduate degrees. Whereas Blue Mountain Christian University began its first session as a women’s institution on September 12, 1873, with a four-member faculty offering a liberal arts curriculum to 50 students; Whereas Blue Mountain Christian University was chartered as a college in 1877 and managed by the Lowrey family until 1920, when the Mississippi Baptist Convention assumed ownership; Whereas, in 1956, the Mississippi Baptist Convention voted to add a coordinated academic program for men preparing for church-related vocations; Whereas, in 2005, the Board of Trustees voted to make Blue Mountain Christian University a fully co-educational institution; Whereas, on October 7, 2022, the Board of Trustees approved changing the name of the institution from Blue Mountain College to Blue Mountain Christian University; Whereas, Blue Mountain Christian University has grown from 50 students to host more than 600 students participating in nine programs of study, including establishing graduate programs in education in 2006, business administration in 2019, and kinesiology in 2023, as well as a School of Nursing in 2022; Whereas Blue Mountain Christian University has played a significant role in meeting the needs of its constituents for 150 years by educating women in the 1870s following a devastating war, by educating ministers in the mid-1950s when bi-vocational pastors were unable to travel to pursue higher education, by converting to co-educational status in 2005 when the education of both men and women became expedient to enhance community advancement and service, and by establishing a nursing program in the 2020s to address a critical shortage of trained personnel in the medical field; Whereas the inaugural Southern Literary Festival was established at Blue Mountain Christian University in 1937 to foster creative writing and to provide exposure to successful authors; Whereas Blue Mountain Christian University is renowned for academic excellence in education and ministry, producing both excellent “teachers and preachers” in particular and outstanding graduates broadly who are all academically and spiritually prepared to assume places of leadership in their professions and in the faith community; Whereas Blue Mountain Christian University was a pioneer in women’s college athletics on the state and national levels, first by joining the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women and later the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics; Whereas the athletic program of the Blue Mountain Christian University Toppers is now composed of 18 men’s and women’s intercollegiate varsity athletic teams that represent Blue Mountain Christian University in the Southern States Athletic Conference; Whereas Blue Mountain Christian University is dedicated to supporting the academic success of student athletes while striving for on-field success; and Whereas hundreds of students of all races, creeds, backgrounds, and beliefs receive a world-class, Christ-centered education at Blue Mountain Christian University: Now, therefore, be it Resolved, That the Senate— (1) commends Blue Mountain Christian University for its 150 years of service to the State of Mississippi and the United States; (2) recognizes Blue Mountain Christian University for its academic, faith-based, athletic excellence; and (3) respectfully requests that the Secretary of the Senate transmit an enrolled copy of this resolution to— (A) the President of Blue Mountain Christian University, Dr. Barbara Childers McMillin; (B) the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of Blue Mountain Christian University, Dr. Sharon Ball Enzor; and (C) the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics of Blue Mountain Christian University, Mr. Will Lowrey.

    BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss.—Blue Mountain Christian University is pleased to announce an increase in merit-based scholarships as part of its continued commitment to college affordability. The scholarships are available for incoming first-year students and community college transfer students beginning in the fall of 2024. "In an era where more and more people question the value of a college education, BMCU is making a substantial commitment to increasing accessibility by providing an affordable, high-quality education. By investing in scholarships, we hope to reach more students and set our graduates on a path of life and career success by reducing post-college debt," said Dr. Barbara McMillin, BMCU President. Incoming first-year students earning an ACT score of 19 and above, and transfer students with a community college GPA of 3.25 and above, will receive a scholarship offer based on the merit-based system at the time of their admission. Students who have already been admitted to BMCU for the fall 2024 semester and meet the merit requirements will receive a letter with the revised scholarship information. "Our Admissions and Financial Aid Office will notify students about this exciting scholarship opportunity, and we can't wait to welcome future Toppers to the Mountain," said Alyssa Cooper, Interim Director of Enrollment Services.
